Representing Falmouth

ABOUT ME

I am Dan Gessen, and I’m honored to serve as Falmouth’s representative in the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates, where my colleagues have elected me Deputy Speaker, working to build coalitions and lead our regional Cape Cod government.

My upbringing, shaped by my family’s experiences arriving in the United States as refugees from the USSR, instilled a deep appreciation for the opportunities and freedoms we enjoy in the United States. I see serving my nation and my community as a way of repaying this debt and ensuring these opportunities remain available to future generations.

I was fortunate to be born and raised in Falmouth, graduating from Falmouth High in 2018. I went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Public Policy from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, followed by a Master’s Degree in Business Analytics from the Isenberg School of Management. After graduating from college, I was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in the Massachusetts National Guard.

As an Infantry Platoon Leader in the Army National Guard, I’ve had the opportunity to lead soldiers in Iraq and Syria. These experiences have strengthened my dedication to service and understanding of leadership in challenging environments.

In my role as Falmouth’s Delegate to the County Assembly, I’ve worked to deliver real results for our community—securing $1.3 million in federal funds for wastewater projects, negotiating increases to dredge rates, and championing financial relief for homeowners burdened with septic system replacement costs. I’ve also supported regional infrastructure initiatives like FalmouthNet, helping to secure funding and pass critical Town Meeting articles.

I believe that those with a genuine desire to do good can always find common ground. I am here to learn, listen, and work with others to address Cape Cod’s pressing challenges. Together, we can build a future where our community thrives for generations to come.
